How can I get a library card?

Patrons can get their library card at Pioneer Memorial Library. They will need to show a valid photo ID with their current address. If the patron does not have a photo ID or their ID does not have an updated address, they will need a document with a correct address on it.
Library cards are free for residents of Gillespie County who are six years of age or older. For persons seventeen and under, a parent will need to be present with a valid ID.
Residents of adjoining counties (Kerr, Llano, Blanco, Kendall, Kimble, Mason) and temporary residents (residing in Gillespie County for 3 months or longer) can get a library card for $5 a year; cards will need to be renewed yearly.
Library cards expire after three years (as of August 6th, 2025), in which the patron needs to come into the library with their ID to get it renewed. Library cards must be presented at time of checkout.

What can I do with my library card?

With a library card, a patron will have the ability to check-out materials from Pioneer Memorial Library, such as books, magazines, books on CD, and STEAM kits. These materials can be checked out for two weeks (fourteen days). If the due date arrives and the material is not on hold for another patron, it will be auto-renewed for another two weeks. The library also has DVDs, which can be checked out for one week (seven days) and maintain the same auto-renew process.
Patrons can also have access to materials on Libby using their library card number and PIN.

I want to check out a book, but the library does not have a copy in the collection.

If we do not have a book in our collection that you would like to check-out, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
We will put in a request to other libraries around Texas, who can then send a copy from their collection for you to read. The cost for an ILL is $0.75 to cover postage.
We can only request ILLs for books that are older than six months from their publication date (for example, we cannot ILL a copy of a book published April 2025 when the current date is July 2025).
If you would like to use Interlibrary Loan, ask a librarian at the circulation desk or fill out this form: Interlibrary Loan Request Form

Can I use a computer for research or to search the web?

Pioneer Memorial Library has several computers for patrons to use at the library.
Patrons will need their library card in order to access the computers, as it will ask for their full library card number. If a person does not have a library card, they can receive a guest pass at the circulation desk.
Patron computers have internet access and word-processing capabilities.
The library also has free, unlimited Wi-Fi which can be accessed from patron's personal devices.

How can I print a document at the library?

Patrons and guests can print from the library computers or from their own personal device. When printing from a library computer, the patron will go to print their document as normal and pick up their prints at the circulation desk. If the patron has their documents to print on their phone, they can send the documents to print.princh.com and pick up their prints at the circulation desk. All print jobs must be picked up the same day before the library closes.
Printing is $0.15 per page in black-and-white and one-sided. We do not offer color printing.

Does the library offer language services?

Pioneer Memorial Library is now using Mango Languages to offer online language learning to Gillespie County. Mango offers 70+ languages to learn as well as ASL (American Sign Language). To find out more information or to sign up, click here or go to https://connect.mangolanguages.com/pml/start

Do you accept donations?

Pioneer Memorial Library welcomes donations that are clean, dry, and mold-free. They are checked by a staff member, who determines if the donations can be added to the collection. If not, they are passed to the Friends of Pioneer Memorial Library, who add them to their used book store or for one of their book sales.
You can learn more about donations, including what we accept, on our website: Donations & Memorials
